Slingbox hosting for UK TV
Has anyone tried one of the hosting services for slingbox? Everything I hear from multiple web chatrooms are all good, but was wondering if anyone here has actual experience with one of these companies?
Hopefully by June I should be watching UK TV ***AT LAST SOME GOOD PROGRAMMING!!***

Send me the links.. it'll be interesting. They will likely be shut down, depending on what they are broadcasting but what the heck... use it whilst you can.

I am certain in a few years the beeb will offer streaming bbc1, i for one would gladly pay 50 quid a month for it. I pay that now for 250 channels of SHITE on dishnetwork.

If you google 'slingbox hosting' you will get a ton of links. thetelly.net seems to be a new player in the field. Regarding the legality, i am not sure how the beeb or the UK government would close them down....the slingbox is legal to own, leccy and net connection paid for, and i assume the company have a tv license, that is the only grey area i can see. Same as your sister hosting for you...she pays the license, you watch in the USA....these guys pay the license and I watch. I will gladly buy 10 TV licenses if it means i can watch UK telly.

I'm pretty certain it's about as illegal as it gets. Re-broadcasting for a profit is the problem. It's a grey area with my neice but individuals and no profit make for going after people like me quite weak. In addition, I do have a house there but my FIL lives there who isn't technical enough to support me else i'd put it in my own house

I'm amazed at how important the TV is for some people.

the beeb kind of turn a blind eye on nova because it'll happen anyway, but nova don't allow commercial stuff to be uploaded, but they are quite aggressive with other sites as it is still illegal.

UK TV is very important for me, my sense of humour, interests etc are more represented by UK broadcasters than US ones. I will admit, i enjoy a number of programmes on US networks, but really miss in depth programmes like question time, panorama...stuff that wouldn't sell adverts here. So until the BBC make there programming available on the web, i will use slingbox

I see what you mean about the re-broadcasting. I would gladly pay for my own TV licence if there was any way to do so. My brother actually today offered to host the slingbox for me!

I agree with you about missing British telly. It's the quality of the broadcasting that is so high, and maybe a good dose of homesickness too. But you realize that Panorama is broadcast online in a good quality broadband feed, right? (Along with Question Time, Sunday AM, This Week, Daily Politics, Newsnight etc. etc.).
