Take a trip to Canada and purchase one at Canadian Tire. Although more and more stores in the US are offering quite good electric kettles. At least my Canadian thinks so. For me, give me a gas range and a whistling teapot for boiling my cuppa water.

Fried squirrel, fried rabbit, fried quail, venison, and other stuff that didn't
successfully hide from my dad's huntin' gun. A lot of things taste good when you
don't have much money, I have found. And, frankly, healthier than beef or pork
either one.

Here are two electric kettle spots Bodrum:

Superior Electrics http://superiorcanada.com/kettles.htm

We bought a Bodrum kettle at Target, and Steve finds it works well enough.

(although hubby prefers Nescafé)

We have many UK food suppliers listed at the site below, you may find one in driving
distance. http://www.britsintheus.com/foods.htm

Very true! I was on my own before I really knew what beef or chicken were. I grew up
on duck, goose, rabbit, grouse, elk, venison, pheasant or what have you -- even the
occaisional squirrel.

Now, I'm adicted to pheasant, real smoked salmon and other things that you just don't
find in the stores. These are much better for you and I think that they taste better
-- at least you get more variety.

I work in a shop 'store', and one of the many things that amazes me about the
differences between the UK and US is: The amount of people who do not sign the back
of their credit/debit cards. They say to me when I ask them why "If I signed it and
lost it someone would know what my signature is like!!!!!' AH HA....... and you
haven't signed it, so if you lost it or it was stolen they could just sign it and
pass it off as their own card!!! No, because THEY don't know what my signature is
like!!!!! Then when you ask them for ID so you can compare their signature on the
slip, they seem put out. I really feel like I am on a different planet sometimes. The
electric kettle I have was brought over from Canada by a friend, and it's great, just
takes a while to boil, but patience is a virtue. Chocci, that's the price everyone
pays for coming over, they have to bring me over big bars of chocci. I would love
them to bring me over a good loaf of bread without the sweet taste, but I have to
wait until I cross the pond for that one.

The thing to write on the back of the credit card is: "CID". That way you are
supposed to check the ID of the person presenting the card...at least that's what we
do around here.

Brian, it sounds like you are very happy and fit very well into the Texas life style.
I just recently moved from Dallas/Fort Worth, and I am now in San Antonio waiting for
my fiance from England. He really liked Texas when he was here. As far as the sugar,
you can eat stuff not so sweet. Yes the women are very huggy and nice, but that is
Southern hospitality, and just good food.. Enjoy, there are alot of people waiting to
get over here and suffer like you LOL

Hehehehe... thanks.

My new family say the same and are stunned that I even like my Chili hotter than most of them do and as for my curry... let me tell you, it's a killer!!!

When I was over there earlier this year the hardest thing I found to get used to
(beside driving on the wrong side of the road LOL.... I am Aussie) was the sweet
bread, my darling spoke to a few people for me and they suggested I try Sour Dough
Bread which I found wasn't too bad!! Maybe you could try that!!
