singapore airlines bargains IAH - Manchester

I know someone else posted about this but we just bought a one way ticket for son in June for $300, a return for his friend was $700. For a non-stop flight, this is fab! The boys are also thrilled to bits to be going on a brand spanking new Airbus A390-900. Which is really wide. We watched this plane take it's inaugural flight from Blagnac too, so a bit more thrilling for us.

A390? Do you mean the A350XWB?

Yes! We booked one way IAH to Manchester then Flybe takes us to Aberdeen. And you get two bags on the IAH to MAN route. We paid $388.

We were told about this from another expat here who flew over for $680 return, and is presently still in the UK, arriving back tomorrow. Made travel for a family of four doable.

Yay!

Oooh, what a fab bargain!

I used to live in Singapore (twice, actually).

The airline is as far as I'm concerned, the best in the world.

Cabin crews are so gracious and well-groomed, (they retire them at a young age too, usually by the age of 36) with the exception of the very senior ones in First Class, the 'Singapore Girls' start off in blue kabayas, going up in seniority to green and then to the top ones in red kabayas). It's so refreshing compared to the scruffy and often miserable US cabin crews. They are fantastic when travelling with small children.

Even in economy class they do little (pleasing) things which other airlines abandoned years ago; you will be given a hot damp flannel to refresh yourself and they still have a written menu for the meal options. The only thing I would pass on would be a 'Singapore Sling' which is a sickly sweet cocktail.

In In-Flight Entertainment is usually excellent in all classes too.

Hmmm....now off to check out those flights, even though I'm only 10 miles from Newark airport and have no need to go to anywhere near Manchester airport lol! :sneaky:

Yep they put the route in last October, just a few weeks after my family booked all their travel from the North of England to Houston for this March for the wedding (and have gone with KLM or BA).

Parents flew Singapore for Thanksgiving, they loved it!

That's a long flight to be in economy. This will be my first time for years going direct from US to UK in economy. I don't have enough points to upgrade 4 people.

Re: singapore airlines bargains IAH - Manchester

A question: has anyone flown Singapore Airlines to Manchester and then connected via Flybe? My husband is flying from Houston To Manchester then connecting at Manchester for a Flybe flight to Aberdeen. What we are wondering is "Are the bags checked through all the way to the final destination or does he need to pick the bags up at Manchester and recheck them?"

As we have to change terminals at Manchester this might determine how we pack.

Thank you

Are you booked all the way to Aberdeen or Manchester with a separate booking to Aberdeen?

The former will see the bags transferred automatically (in theory at least!) whereas the latter will require you to collect them and check them in for the second leg. Either way, you will most likely have to gather them up in Manchester for a customs check.

I believe that to be correct - the Flybe flight is domestic, so the customs check will have to be in Manchester because the luggage isn't separated on the domestic flight to Aberdeen.

Different airline with no code share so you will have to collect your luggage, clear customs and check in for next flight.

If we arrived in Toulouse from outside EU via Paris or London but all BA or Air France or Lufthansa then bags were checked right through and cleared customs in Toulouse.

On another note, if you have 2 separate tickets and your Manchester flight is late, and you miss your Flybe flight, you will need to purchase another ticket or pay for a ticket change.
