Could anybody out there enlighten me as to why UK residents are not allowed to participate in the US Diversity Lottery? Considering the close Political, Social and Cultural similarities our Countries share. The Diversity Lottery is an opportunity for ordinary people to achieve their Dreams, However, We in the UK are excluded from it!

Maybe because most USAmericans originally came from the UK and it wouldn't be any
diversification if more British people were to became Americans? Kamen

This page seems to provide the answer

http://www.ins.usdoj.gov/graphics/howdoi/divlott.htm

"None of these visas are available for people who come from countries that have sent
more than 50,000 immigrants to the United States in the past five years"

The actual law is here

http://www.ins.usdoj.gov/lpBin/lpext...b-1062/slb-11-
97?f=templates&fn=document-frame.htm#slb-act203

The UK is not the only country excluded from the DV lottery

Could it be that little incident a couple of hundred years ago when you tried to
raise the tax on tea? :)

Seriously, DV visas are for nations that are underrepresented in the number of
immigrants they send to the US, and the DV program is trying to increase the
diversity of immigrants (hence the name "Diversity Visa").

What are your dreams anyway?

You ask a question in one sentence and answer it in the next! If you consider "the
close Political, Social and Cultural similarities our Countries share", how would
immigration from the UK do much to increase diversity in the USA?

The Dream is "The American Dream". Being able to work hard and be rewarded accordingly instead of being taxed silly on absolutely everything. This is the dream that I have!
Finding a legitamate route is the Nightmare!
