For Silly Sod - Saugatuck, SW Michigan
Here's a link to the Saugatuck (and Douglas, but we found that to be nothing special) website. It's very artsy and I found some wonderful cafes to eat at. One of which is at the end of a wooden pier at the south-eastern end of the Kalamazoo Harbour (just over the bridge to Douglas).
We stayed here and took the Chain Ferry over from right opposite the road, from the hotel, to downtown Saugatuck. On this map it's number 33 in the "Motels, Resorts & Cottages" listing (the one in the right-hand column). We took a corkscrew with us and borrowed glasses from the hotel as they don't have their own bar (all they do is a small breakfast) and drank our own wine out on their very nice wooden deck. Found Fenn Valley Vineyards easily enough and did a tasting there (and bought a case :D ), but as for the rest of the reported SW Michigan wine trail, I followed all the signs to the various wineries and vineyards when on my way back to Illinois, and didn't come across a single one. Anyway, hope that helps a bit. :) |
