I don't know I haven't looked at new ones. I bet Sears will repair it...the washer will then be covered for 12mths if anything else go wrong.

If I had to buy a new one I would probably get another Maytag front loader or Sears own brand.

Re: <<<sigh>>> washing-machine recommendations - please!!...
I have owned a Maytag Neptune front loader for nearly three years now. I did take out an extended warranty but I've never had any problems with it.
I don't know if my model is even made any more. I'd suggest looking at this forum:

I've been more than happy with my Maytag. It's so easy to use. Getting the HE detergent's another matter...

I'm a Whirlpool Duet man myself.
The Duet has a bit of a cult following being a supposedly energy efficient front loader. Front loaders do away with the agitation thing in the middle (of a top loader) and as such are supposed to be better on your clothes and allows for a much larger wash load. They also have a rinse cycle that spins at about 1500 rpms (standard top loader is about 400 rpm) resulting in a drier damp clothes that you pull out. I have the 'sport' model which has a 5 point suspension system and doesn't weigh as much as the main model (at 1500 rpms, the main model, if placed on the second floor of your house, would probably shake the place apart). The duets are stackable so you can save some space.
The Neptune is similar, and there is a new model out from someone that has some steam disinfectant.
Neptune, Duet, the other one--all pretty expensive.
My advice is to head to a Loews or a Home Depot and goto the appliance sector. I've generally had pretty good information from the folks in the major appliances (i.e. vs. some of the other folks who don't know what they are talking about). If you see someone in major appliances with grey hair, they are usually a retired plumber or repairman who came back to work at the hardware store and they usually know what they are talking about.

It depends on how much you want to spend.
