They first had pay-at-the-pump back in the early 1980s in the UK. Didn't see it in the US till much later. Maybe they'll get it in New Jersey one day!!

Correct and I love it. A few years ago there was some talk of going over to self service. That would have meant the loss of many jobs and it wouldn't reduce the price of gas at the pump...so it was decided to stay full service at the pumps.

I hate it when I go back to the UK and have to pump my own gas...smelly petrol on my hands....yuck.

Yes .. we visited new Jersey over the summer (calling on the old folks at home in the cemeteries) and remarked on how comparatively cheap the gas was..

Wow, I've only ever seen that in developing countries! Not making a comparison, just an observation of the countries I have visited!

What is DD? Dunkin Donuts? We don't have any of those around here. The closest chain donut shop is Krispy Kremes.....far enough away that I don't have to worry about it.

Yep. I always feel like its a treat when I go down to Oregon and don't have to go out and pump my own gas, especially when its pissing it down or colder than a witch's tit....

Yup, Dunkin D's....you can't spit for hitting one around here.

Plenty of Starbucks around Boston, just not quite so many in the burbs....but DD do better regular coffee anyway and their hash browns are awesome, gross, but awesome!

I feel weird when I can't pump my own gas. It just comes second nature to me to get out of the car and fill it up. I was surprised when I went to Oregon about 6 years ago and only saw Full Serve pumps. I felt awkward and obligated to tip when I didn't want to. I felt if someone was going to fill your car while facing the elements they should deserve something but not having the option to fill up for myself so I would have to tip just felt wrong.

As you know I was in the New England area and can vouch for the amount of DD's in the area. I ate there twice during my stay and loved the hash browns and Munchkins. One can never get enough cinnamon and glazed Munchkinks. God I miss that area.
