Default Short term work

We have been living in the US for 5 years now, my brother lives in the UK and has recently been made redundant from his job there and at the minute with the recession there are no prospects in the UK for him, he wants to come out and stay with us (not move out here) for a few months (anything up to 12 months), does anyone know if he is allowed to work while he is out here or are there any work or travel visa's that he could obtain so that he can work while here? He is a hard worker but does not have a career or skills he had just done a variety of jobs for his working life
Any info or tips would be greatly appreciated!

He cannot work as a visitor in the USA. He also cannot stay beyond 90 days if he comes on the VWP. If he's eligible to use the VWP, he should not apply for a B-2 visitor's visa; it will most likely be denied.

As for getting a work visa, it doesn't sound like he has the education or skill set required for that, but feel free to take a look and see if any of the visas listed in this link will suit him (doubtful, but doesn't hurt to look):

H2a or H2b. He won't enjoy them.

Aren't temporary or seasonal work visas available for Canada which he could try, and then visit you a couple of times in the US?
