Short term rental in New York
Hello Everyone,
I will be relocating to New York from the UK in February to start a new job. I would like to ask your advice on finding some accommodation in Manhattan for approximately 1 month whilst I look for somewhere permanent. I will be coming with my boyfriend and a studio/1 bedroom place would be fantastic. I wouldn’t want to pay anymore than $2500, the cheaper the better. If you know of anyone/any websites that you think would be useful I would love to hear them!
Any advice on relocating to NY would also be greatly received.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
Kirsty

A friend used this site to find a place in NYC for a month last year - http://www.airbnb.com/

1) It can move incredibly quickly, you often have to be there in ten minutes with your deposit or the line of people behind you will snatch it up
2) Lots of scams, particularly on Craigslist. Typically the owner is suddenly called overseas and you must wire the money to them and pick up the keys from someone else. Sounds obvious but don't wire any money.
3) Many landlords aren't very nice.

If looking for cheap, check out college campus notice board type sites for sublets...

Thanks everyone for your advice! I have checked out the websites and all look very useful. I will also keep my eyes open for the scams on Craigs list.
Thanks again, and any further advice on rentals is always welcomed.
