Short Term Medical Insurance

Hello,

has anyone got any recommendations for short term medical insurance for a family of 3 moving to Dallas, TX. I think I would like to take it out for roughly 1 month (with a possible extension) while I seek permanent employment which will come with medical insurance.

Ive done a basic google search but thought I would ask

Thanks,
Scott

There plans for new immigrants but none of them I would describe as good.

Not sure how common it is for an EMployer to provide Health Insurance from day 1.

Usually they don't. Medical insurance doesn't kick in until the 91st day of employment which is when your probationary period is over.

Ok, well 1-3 month medical insurance isn't a problem. Im sure the organisations I'm speaking with said they offer it from day 1, but ill be sure to check.

Also, do you know if its possible to get medical insurance without a SSN? the websites im on ask for one... which I don't have yet

You do not need to have a SSN to buy Insurance, might be interesting to get around it.

All standard US medical insurance comes with a default included option to cancel under certain specific circumstances, including but not confined to: changing/ getting a job, spouse changing job, getting married/ divorced, birth/ adoption of a child, etc.

So what you need is to just sign up for standard ACA health insurance, then cancel the policy when your employer-linked coverage kicks in.

All our benefits kick in on day one, including medical.

The only thing that didn't was the 401k match and corresponding vesting period for employer contributions, however since I was an international transfer with continuity of service I was a bit of a special case; my UK employment was credited against the 401k and I was fully vested from day one.

All of the companies I work with professionally have medical insurance from day 1.
