Short term car insurance for Brit visiting family in US
Hi everyone, I'm not sure if anyone would be able to help but I thought it was worth a shot.
I'm visiting family in the US in the summer and I have been looking into renting a car. Having spoken to my family however they have several vehicles and would be happy for me to use one of theirs the only question is regarding insurance. I am over 25 with a full UK driving licence, no points, is there any way I can be insured to drive one of their vehicles for 2 weeks or is it best just to rent a car?
Thanks in advance!

When my son comes to visit from the UK I call my insurance company and get him added on. So far for visits upto 3 weeks they have done so without any addidtional charge.

Why do they not ask their Insurer?

Auto insurance in the US is sold in regards to the vehicle. As a general rule, household guests are included in the coverage of the owner absent a specific exception. OP's host should look at their policy.

I added a visiting friend (non-US resident/citizen) to my policy for a few weeks, without charge.

I asked my broker about this for my Dad, when he visited a few years ago, and was told as long as he has my permission, he was covered to drive my car. Or my car was covered to be driven by him. He did not crash or speed, so that is all I know.

Similar here in Philippines. Vehicle is insured so anyone can drive with permission. Unless you're barred of course!
