shooting in courthouse
Hi all, the english news has been full of a shooting in the courthouse of a judge and policemen in atlanta, by a man who was on trial there.
How awful to loose your life at work when your aim is to ensure that justice is done.
The man is supposed to be on the run still
I hope he is caught soon, i assume he will be shot after murdering a policeman on duty, i just feel so sorry for the relatives of the victims.

Well the manhunt is still on-they've found the car he hijacked. Interesting reading that the reason that he wasn't in handcuffs being brought in, is a policy so that the jury is not "predisposed" to think the defendant is guilty. A little bit of ACLU "wisdom" that literally blew up in their face on this one,

Exactly, not to mention they had found hidden in his shoes two shanks, that he had made-so they KNEW he was dangerous. Why they only had one deputy escort him heaven knows?! I'm sure he feels like he has nothing to lose so will do what he has to, to stay free.

It would be interesting for the ACLU to make a comment. Where do you draw the line between political correctness and human rights, which has been the subject of an intense debate on BE. I think the finger is going to be pointed in all directions on this one.

The whole thing is pretty bizarre-this guy was no gangbanger, he had a job and probably a normal life. Then he gets done in on rape and now he's bought himself a seat in the electric chair. Makes no sense at all.

Re: shooting in courthouse
All day yesterday they had signs up here in Atlanta, telling us to look out for a green Honda. Then last night a citizen found it in the same parking deck it was taken from!!
The authorities have no idea, it scares me to tell the truth.

I can understand the 'alleged' part of a statement until a person is proven guilty but why have they been using this statement all the time on TV. There is nothing 'alleged' about what he done it was done for all to see. Someone explain to me, please.

I am not sure, unless it is (I know you're going to groan) due to being sued or causing undue prejudice or some happy horseshit legalese defense atorney term.
We've got a case here in Savannah right now, last year's Miss Savannah who shot her boyfriend in the butt because he cheated on her. The defense attorney is saying that because the doctors' screwed up and they didn't call the ambulance fast enough he died, so Miss Savannah shouldn't be done for murder. A witness said that she (Miss Savannah) had said she would kill him if she caught him messing around. Well she shot him and that is a crime!

Have to ask ... was he caught in the act with his drawers around his ankles ?
Would have made the perfect target.
As for the shooter in Atlanta, he is alive and has been caught.
