Shock-deafness, common?
Just a quick one to note experiences i have had here, i don't know if it is something to do with the fact that there aren't a lot of English here, but every time i talk to someone who doesn't know me for the first time (in stores, friends of friends, etc.) as soon as i open my mouth their eyes just seem to glaze over and you can see they are slowly trying to figure out why i sound different, by the time this thought process has finished i have also finished talking and they have missed my question or comment! then (because they expect the accent when you go to reply again) you can see they are itching to ask where i am from! i usually get (right at the end of the conversation) so where you from? Australia? makes me laugh every time! i even got accused of being German once (!) has anyone else had this experience? or is it limited to Jacksonville Fl?
