Shipping my stuff to USA

Can anybody tell me please what customs etc forms are needed to ship my personal belongings and household effects from here in the UK to my new address in the USA? Can you also tell me where I get these forms from and/or what the procedure is. Many thanks.

http://www.swintl.com/import.htm

if you go here and to the download link the forms are there for what you need.

basically its the power of attorney form, form 3299, and the supplemental form. Most companies whoever you are shipping with should give you the info and advice that you need.

You will almost certainly get them from the shipping company you choose, I used PSS
and got all my forms from them.

I sent in 2 Fedex boxes and carried 2 large luggages with me.

Fedex had all the forms needed but I was warned that the US customs are extremely
tight in screening the contents.

Good luck.

Cheapest and best for me was shipping two large boxes (21" monitor boxes, because
they are EXTREMELY STRONG) through KLM (I came from The Netherlands). $200 including
insurance. Only thing I had to do is drop them off at the cargo building at the
airport and pick them up at the cargo building in Chicago. That's it. Everything
arrived extremely well. So my advice, talk to the cargo/freight/export department of
the airline you take. Maybe you get every discount if you take it with you on the
same flight.

Good luck, Daniel

I have downloaded form 3299 for customs importing my household goods into the United States. Is it ok to use downloaded forms for this or do I need to contact the US customs and specifically request them?

For those who are using a moving company to ship stuff over to the States, can anyone
recommend good and reasonably priced movers?

Abi as far as i know you should be able to use those. If you are unsure use these ones off the uscustoms website:
