Default Shipping- maybe air shipping- advise, recomendations- UK to California,USA

Hello everyone,
I am back here again with second follow up question. Briefly, my husband and husband's company wants him (us) to move to HQ. His start date in HQ is 1st Of August. I am now thinking of shipping stuff.
Anyone have any advise on shipping companies please? I keep reading reviews and then freaking out.

I am quite curious about air shipping and wondered if anyone can advise- I want to ship few boxes of clothes, few boxes of kitchen utensils, 4 boxes of books (sentimental value), the mattress discussed in a different post (this has to come with us), UK super king bed (due to the UK mattress).
Thank you,
Relocating Brit

We shipped most of our stuff in a shipping container but sent two airfreight trunks with the sort of things you're contemplating sending by air - kitchen utensils, some extra clothing, a few books. The mattress may be expensive due to its size, and I would get the shippers to wrap it in plastic and put it in your container.

Whilst I cannot speak for the mattress or bed, my parents have shipped me (via air) a 28kg care package through a company called TransGlobalExpress.

They shipped over a package full of Christmas presents (including some delicates). It came through with no issues. Couple of hits on the box which were from customs getting in. My mother said they were fantastic and a great help would definitely be using them again.

Website for reference: https://www.transglobalexpress.co.uk/air-freight/

I hope this helps. I am sure others will be a long shortly with other options for you!

I had books and photo albums go UK to US via Air Shipping, plus some clothes and other sentimental bits and pieces. All fine.

Hello
A great place to start for shipping is to check out FIDI website for a list of FAIM certified international removal companies that serve your area to make sure whoever you're using is fully qualified, licensed and independently vetted for overseas moving.
There are lots more tips about choosing reputable removals companies and your different options over on our vendor forum for International Removals advice. Hope it helps!

Regarding reviews, don't freak out! MOST companies have bad reviews online if you dig hard enough, i've just posted a bit in our forum linked above with some tips on evaluating bad reviews as I thought it might be helpful to you.

re: airfreight, do you have an allowance for this as part of a relocation package provided by the company? If so this is a great way to get the most urgent things to you quickly so definitely use it! What you can take depends on the volume allowance you get, the mattress and bed are quite large so best to check how much that would take up. When you have your survey for shipping ask the move consultant to help you work out what you have space for in the air freight.

Hope that helps?
