Thought i'd share this.............it might prove useful to anyone planning to ship household goods to the USA in the near future. ( 20ft Container) - Ex - Door (UK Home address Surrey) – Los Angeles, California Weekly Sailing – 36 days – Quay to Quay UK Charges - Load – Pack – Secure – Export Docs, Clearance - £ 325.00 GBP UK terminal handling charges, Port Security, Container lifts, Container Haulage to (Surrey - UK Home address) to and from to the port of export, , All Export documentation, Clearance including Steamship Line Bills of Lading. Ocean freight / VGM / Haz / Low Sulphur - surcharges to arrival Los Angeles, Ca Quay Only - $ 2850.00 USD Completion of Steamship Line VGM, Ocean freight / Fuel surcharges to arrival Quay Only. Includes Destination THC.. ( Destination Terminal Handling ) Any timber used in the packing must be Heat Treated and ISPM 15 treated timber to meet industry standard regulations for import into Global Destinations US Side of the operations – Customs - Personal effects are duty free but there are still some charges such as ISF filing, entry bond, Merchandise processing fee, Harbor maintenance fee and entry fee. We will need a full list of the items with values for customs and the forms are attached to be complete by the consignee. Our agent will charge the following: Customs entry fee: $125.00 Duty :…………………: Free Entry bond:…………. $119.00 MPF…………………….0.3464% of the declared value (min:$45-Max:$485) HMF…………………… 0.125 % of the declared value ISF and Bond…………100.00 E&O…………………….$15.00 Container handling charges: Container drayage to Laguna Niguel, CA : $ 750.00 USD ** 2 hrs free and then $ 95 USD /hr ** Chassis: $45/day USD Pier pass: $105.00 USD Handling and documentation: $ 350.00 USD UK Haulage Rules and Regulations;- 1) Container is left on the haulers chassis approx. 4ft 6” off the ground.. the unit going to will need a loading ramp / loading dock.. 2) Standard Haulage You get 3 hours to unload before any charges are payable, there after charged at £ 70.00 per hour or part thereof. 3) Standard Haulage We can book a time anytime between 8am and 6pm – Monday to Friday ( Saturday morning can be arranged – surcharges payable) 4) *** Container must be swept clean, all nails removed, any spillages / leaks must be attempted to be cleaned / soaked up. Customs Exams / Rent / Demurrage. If UK or USA customs pull a container for and Exam, this will incur charges, Demurrage charges are applied for storage of laden containers whilst in care in a port, rail terminal, feeder terminal, inland depot or container yard. Demurrage is applied after the designated free time has expired and we do not ship the container due to a customs exam.. All Exam / Demurrage Charges will be split between the consignee’s within the container as the cargo holders Marine Insurance With regards to marine insurance this is highly recommended. Hauliers, warehouses, ports, carriers and agents operate with limits to their liability which would not cover the value of a vehicle in the event of loss or damage. We don't expect to go for another few months so this was just an initial exercise to weigh up between buying new when we arrive or take our own gear.........aside from elec goods of course. However, my personal feeling is that the family would benefit from having some familiarity mixed in amongst the new surroundings. The shippers said that there will be swings on some of the costings but said to budget between £3.5 and 4K. Seems quite reasonable to me. Mic |
