Original Birth Certificate
Soon I will need to submit official documents to the USCIS for a Green Card.
It states I will need to send in a birth certificate, however having lookedthrough the house I’ve just no idea where it is.
If I receive a new one from the local council will this be sufficient as original?Or will I need to have more supporting document?

Re: Originl Birth Certificate
If you were born in England then just order a fresh copy from the General Register Office for £9.25. All such documents are copies since the original is the register itself.

Re: Originl Birth Certificate
I had to do the same for my Green Card, apply online at GRO,
They quickly (2 days processing) sent back the "Certified copy of an entry", which looks like a low quality photocopy of the original onto an official form.
The application form which came back with it says "Priority E/W Birth Full w/o GRO" for 'certificate type'.
I admit I had started freaking out when I couldn't find the original birth certificate, but as everyone has said, it's really easy to get the replacement.

Re: Originl Birth Certificate
I keep multiple copies of family birth certs and also my marriage cert. Having only one copy often isn't enough. Keep them in separate places. Some at home, some in a bank safety deposit box, etc.

Re: Originl Birth Certificate
Just receieved the certificate.
It's basically a copy of the birthday certificate which is printed in the middle of A4 paper.
Underneath it states:
The date of the copy and that it's certified to be a true copy.
Underneath however it states:
WARNING: A CERTIFICATE IS NOT EVIDENCE OF IDENTITY.
Are we sure this is all I will need?
