Default Shipping a Horse from UK to Dallas, Texas.

Hi, was just wondering if anyone can recommend a company who can arrange transport for a horse from UK to Dallas.

Thanx.

Can't help, but when our dog flew over from Aberdeen with KLM the air steward was telling us that they had a horse on the flight before us.

I don’t know about a horse but what I have learnt from shipping my dog many times is:
1. There will most certainly be an embargo landing animals during summer in Texas.
2. I would check that KLM have plenty of experience with horses, they may have some with dogs but…. And others
3. Inadvisable for dogs but a horse may need sedation, please talk to a good vet.
4. Maybe sea travel is a good option, a medium sized dog can cost from $200 to $1800 one way, cost of a horse??? possibly more but for the animal's welfare, priceless.
Good luck.

Yah but that was probably for the Kentucky Derby, I hope the OP is very rich to move a horse between continents.

Yep, it was a race horse. They said they regularly have race horses on board.

Steady on! Were probably talking $000's, not tens of $000's, so while it is money not everyone has to burn, I don't think you'd need to be "rich" to ship a horse.

I'd guess that the cost would be in the $10,000-$15,000 range.

Cost of importing a horse from the UK to the US.

This is old, but still interesting. Lots of other fees associated with shopping horses it seems.

We'll I have been googling this avo and it is doable! He will have to go via Amsterdam, then to New York or Miami then overground to Dallas. But have not researched him going to Houston (which is nearer than New York or Miami!). Selling him before we go is not an option and as for me to replace him (like for like - as he is a Warmblood {dressage horse"})would probably more expensive than bringing him with!

Thanx for all your replies.

Interesting. Five years ago the two main costs (airfreight fee + receiving fee) came to about $9,500, so with the other fees, plus some inflation, it looks like it will be right in the range I estimated, admittedly "all in" likely in the upper half of my range.

We often arrange transport for pets when we're helping people plan their house move and use a company called Airpets who are always great! Hope that helps?
