Hi everyone

This isn't strictly within the scope of this group, but I think I saw a thread about
it a while ago (can't find it now though). I'm sure there must be plenty of people on
here with experience of shipping, so I hope you can help.

The company I'm shipping my stuff with have sent me 3 US customs forms: Power of
Attorney, Customs form 3299 and Treasury Dept Supplemental Declaration.

Now, all I'm shipping is basically personal effects (books, records, photos etc), so
I understand I don't have to itemise everything on 3299. But the instructions DO
mention a packing list. Is this another form they should have sent me, or can I just
give them a word processed list?

Also, how detailed does this list need to be? Itemising every last book/CD/odd sock,
or will a general description of what's in each box do just fine?

Best wishes (Signed) Perplexed of England (at least for a couple more weeks) aka Rob

I'm not aware of any other forms having visited various websites and spoken to my
house-mate who worked for a freight forwarder. I'm making a fully detailed list for
myself including itemising cds etc so that if a box goes missing I know exactly
what's in it. I would imagine you would just need to write something like, box 1: 80
CDs, 16 DVDs, University notes.

I had a form from the moving company to list what was being moved, so they knew how
many items and what they were moving.

My own experience was to number the boxes and list the contents roughly
- e.g. if a box was mainly books then 'books', rather than every individual
item. Only for expensive and/or insured items was there any need to make
special note of them.

Hmmm. I was not aware that forms COULD visit various websites. How do they do it? How
do you know they do it? ","?
