Shipping Container from UK to Miami

Hello,

New member here. Thank you in advance for your advice. This will be my first time shipping a container from the UK to Miami, FL. I'm planning a visit to the UK in March 2017 and I'm looking to fill a 40 ft container with furniture and have it shipped back to Florida.

Does anyone else have experience shipping a container from the UK to the Miami port? Is there a more economical UK port for shipping to Miami? There's so many ports to chose from, it's a little confusing. Which carrier has the best prices?

Any advice at all would be helpful. I've been trying to shop around, but personal experiences would be more beneficial.

Thank you! :)

We shipped a 20 footer that we bought, and 40 footer that we rented. Costs don't scale. It was about $1200 to ship a 20 footer, and $1700 to ship a 40 footer.

If you rent, you have a very limited time to load and to unload - a container nearly 5 feet in the air, so you need equipment like a forklift primed and ready when the container and driver arrive. We palletised EVERYTHING that went in, to minimise handling issues.

I can PM you the name of the company we shipped our stuff with, it was not one of the companies "specialising" in shipping households, but the people we used to use for all our company shipping. They were great. We had no breakages.

Thanks so much for the reply! That pricing seems really reasonable. And that was shipping it to Miami? Which port did you ship out of?

I'd love to know which company you used to ship. Please PM that information.

Did you use a company to get the furniture from the port to its final destination?

We shipped to Baltimore, but the principle is the same whereever. The shipping company did the whole process end-to-end.

If the goods are your personal property, and you've owned them for more than 6 months, there is no duty payable.

We live in Florida and are going over to England to purchase furniture and have it shipped back so I would assume we would have to pay duty.

I have to make at least three posts before I can see your PM. Lol.
