Hi,
After our three years in Sydney, we're due to relocate to San Francisco in July/August this year. I reckon we're looking at half a container. We used John Mason for our UK to Sydney move - and they were brilliant. The Australian end of things needed a slight kick up the bum, but an email back to the UK office sorted everything quickly. This was not an uncommon experience for the Aus end. As such I think I'd be tempted to use a US company to move. Customer Service is not a big thing here in Aus and I wonder if we'd have a more positive experience if we used a US removals company.

Any suggestions? Any experience of US companies?

The two ends of an international removal are invariably different businesses with different owners. You could ask which US company will receive and deliver your shipment, but it's mostly a bit of a crap shoot.

I would mostly worry about your stuff being collected and packed/wrapped adequately and so focus on the sending end of the process because if your stuff isn't packed properly things can only go down hill from there.

That's so true. I couldn't agree more. Pretty much everyone I know had some degree of difficulty with Australian Packers/Movers. We had a good deal in comparison. I guess that's why I was thinking of a US company to handle the move. Only when we called Head Office overseas did the Aus company pull their socks up (worried they might lose future sub-contracts with overseas firm). Similar story from all the ex-pats I know here (sadly).
