Shipping company recommendation

Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a shipping company to move household items, furniture, etc from London to San Francisco?

Thanks

We used Cadogan Tate. Very professional, and they halved the difference between their quote and the lowest we got.

We used Pickfords, surprisingly they were not the most expensive as their reputation suggests and very good.

We filled a 20ft container with about 140 boxes and furniture and nothing at all got damaged. The ship went from Southampton to San Francisco and then road to Portland (OR). The handling agent this end was very helpful and the crew that delivered were very good. Once Pickfords told us what ship the container was on we found a web site to track the ship online. The shipment arrived within the time frame Pickfords said it would. We couldn't have been more impressed with them.

They also put us in contact with a company they supplied us with a new car delivered to a local dealer in the US at a huge discount off the dealer invoice price.

might want to have a search through the forum for other threads on the topic...but a lot of it will probably depend on who gets contracted to do the local end of delivery on this side as to how good the service is, in which case you might want to check http://www.movingscam.com/

I have about a transit van of stuff (well I have exactly a transit van of stuff, less the space a king size bed takes in said van... not a long wheel base one either, van, not bed).

Does anyone know approximate shipping costs from the UK to California?

Thanks in advance

For a 20ft container we were quoted between £4000 and £5000 last year, to the west coast, depending on the company. You would need a shared container and depending on how much you used would be a % of the total cost. If you just have boxes someone like Excess Baggage maybe a better bet.

I used Pickfords too, very easy and worked out well.
