Default shipping and car woes

Okay- My fiance was just informed by Honda that
his car doesn't meet U.S. standards because it
does not have airbags..It is an 91 accord... Half
the autos in the rural town in Missouri that I live
in are not equipped with airbags.. He called and
it can't be retro installed into his car. Has anyone else
ran across this problem? Which leads to my
next question... Has anyone shipped their belongings
to the US from Calgary Ca? If so- who?
He mailed his checklist back last week to Toronto.
Hopefully we should be hearing something soon.
Thank You for your help.. Somedays I don't know
what I would do without this forum.. It is the 1st thing I read
every morning...

My husband had just this problem with his '91 Eagle Summit in '98. No passive seat belts and no dual airbags. Was not give the manufacturer's compliance letter for importation. Wound up selling that car, getting another that Chrysler said passed, drove it across the border without the certificate because of time restraints. Was given one year to return it to Canada by Custom's Agent or return with the compliance certificate which Chyrsler said would be sent to him at our NY address. Only later told us still was not in compliance with DOT laws. Returned it to Canada and turned it in for a third card 6 months later.

It sucked.

Just curious why did he send the checklist to Toronto? The only two US Consulates doing K-1s in Canada are Vancouver and Montreal.

Tammie,

12-13 year old car... Sell it and buy a replacement in the US when he gets here. A car that old, no matter how good the shape it may be in, is not worth the hassle and expense.

Regards, JEff

I meant Montreal- Sleep deprivation will do that to you.. Well the car is in pretty good shape, and I have a 15yr old daughter that it would have been the perfect 1st car-- Well I was hoping there was a way around it. You are better off with a truck in this area anyway.I appreciate your help. To be honest I don't care if he shows up with nothing but the clothes on his back.. I just want him home..Haven't seen him since May and it getting harder by the day....
