Shipping belongings to the USA
 

Can anyone recommend a good international shipping company to send belongings to the USA. I dont have a whole house to send but have some general belongings that I wish to ship or send by air.

I was wondering the same thing... I'm not picky about ground or air... whatevers cheaper...

Anyone shipped stuff to the US from Canada that can advise approx cost/hassle etc?

Don't know about recommending, though I can say you might try avoiding if
shipping from the UK to USA

I had the misfortune of using them without knowing as the original removers
happened to contract it out to them. Out of the 15 boxes I shipped I got 14
of them and one other box that didn't belong to me. How they could have
screwed up was beyond me as everybox has the same label sender/deliver to
address and labels I had stuck on saying box 1 of 15, 2 of 15 etc.

Turns out someone in San Francisco (I am in Chicago) got my missing 15th box
and I ended up with his and now I have the hassle of trying to my box back
and his box shipped out.

Needless to say deliver-usa who are the american partner of euro-usa (I am
presuming) are not in a hurry to reunite me with my box. How long does it
take to get a box from San Francisco to Chicago? I waiting on the box
sending me a picture postcard from Hawaii it been away that long.

Maybe I was just unlucky or should I say two of us were unlucky.

Other points to note when shipping stuff, esitimated delivery time is too
the port and not to your door. My 6-8 weeks delivery time was more like 12
when the company decided to tell me that, 'errrr, we can't get a truck up to
you for another 4 weeks, but if you want to unload if off a truck yourself
we can arrange a truck for a week later.

I reckon with all shipping companies it's a hit and a miss whether you get a
good company.. Just be sure that if anything goes wrong they all start
wearing their teflon suits.

Hi there,
I worked for an US based air freight company in Germany and when I was
ready to move to the states they also handled my stuff. I had 5 larger
cartons weighing about 350 lbs. I organized the pick up for Thursday and
left myself on Saturday. On Monday I received a fax from my company's
customs department in Chicago and everything was delivered to me in Iowa
on Wednesday. It may be that being a former employee and knowing some of
the staff from previous visits helped some, but I really had nothing to
complain about and it was reasonably priced around $180 for door door
service in less than a week.
The company's name is BAX Global and NO I don't get paid to mention them
as I now work in a completely different branch and company. They are at
90% of all international airports or have at least representatives on
most others.

Hi Mr D,

I am really surprised as I have heard nothing but good things about the eurogroup as it is based near me and near a USAF base. They have come recommended to me with a good quote as well. Maybe you where just unlucky, maybe they have been taken over by or merged with this other company and now they are not as good.

overseas shipping
 

I can't help with a suggestion on companies to use. BUT I can add one comment as the veteran of not one but two overseas moves, US to Germany and back, US to Netherlands and back (last one basically was 20,000 pounds of household goods btw). We had no choice on movers (ex husband was in the US Army) but we did pick up a few tips. We did pack a few things ourselves BUT we left the cartons open for the company to seal. That way THEY were liable not us if there was a problem. There was always some damage and a few things turned up missing. It was sadly to be expected and went with the territory. We did make sure we had insurance to cover these items.
