Senators Propose Sex Offender E-Mail Registry
"Registered sex offenders would be required to submit their e-mail addresses and instant messenger handles to a national database available to MySpace and similar businesses, under proposed legislation announced by senators John McCain (R-AZ) and Charles Schumer (D-NY) today.
But the so-called "Stop the Online Exploitation of Our Children Act" wouldn't apply to all sex offenders. In fact, it appears it would sweep in minor deviants while essentially exempting some of the worst offenders...."

A good idea, load of cobblers, or just a publicity stunt?
It sounds so full of holes that it's a waste of time and money, but that's my view on it, even if it means well.
The comments are kind of interesting too.

It's like claiming to prevent drunk driving by asking those with a DUI to provide the location of their nearest gas station and the brand of tires on their car.
