Default Seattle or Vancouver

It is still very much in the air right now but we are thinking about taking a cruise to Alaska, most start or end in Vancouver or Seattle. Beyond the cruise we will likely be spending a couple of days in Alaska and then another couple in either (one) of the above... so my question is, given the choice which would you choose and why?

I'd chose Vancouver. Maybe I am just jaded because I live in Seattle, but I think Vancouver is a nicer city, thats a bit of a personal judgment, but it is also foreign; You are an ex-pat in the states, Alaska is in the states, so have a bit of time in another country. (plus you will probably save a little money by not going the extr distance south, though this is probably marginal)

I much prefer Seattle to Vancouver, although the latter is still very nice. (My fiance lives in Seattle, so I visit there a lot, but we also make frequent trips north of the border.) However, his sister happens to work on a cruise ship that does that route, and I have heard her say a couple of times that the cruises out of Vancouver are generally better - better routes, more time in certain places etc.
