Had I camera when I saw this sign at a local self storage company, I would've taken a picture...

Below their name, their sign read, "Store your fruitcake here". :D

If my favorite person were a fruitcake I would consider it. If it were a real fruitcake as in food I would not store it, I would use it for a doorstop, or some other practical thing, :p

Isn't there a longstanding American joke about the same fruitcake being gifted year after year to different people? I think that was the humor the self storage company was alluding to.

Yup, that's the whole regifting thing. I wouldn't waste my money or effort on a gift fruitcake, hence the doorstop idea. Btw, if I tried to gift it, the recipient would probably think I didn't like them.
