You can enter on the visa waiver program for 90 days or less (don't have to get a visa). You are welcome to look for work while on this visa, so long as you don't actually work.

Hello there, this is my first post but this is also a topic I am interested in. Wondering if anyone can help me? Firstly, do you have to apply for this 90 day visa waiver? If you do do this and then return to England...when can you reapply for another 90 day visa?

Thank you

Google is your friend:

http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/wi...hout_1990.html

Provided you don't have something that makes you ineligible for the visa waiver program (certain arrests/convictions, previous visa overstays etc), you just fill out the visa waiver form on the plane and enter for up to 90 days.

There is no rule about how long you have to be out before you can get another 90 day admission, but generally it's advised to spend at least 90 days out of the country before trying again. Having said that, I left to Europe for a weekend once and got a new admission when I went back to the US. Totally up to the border agent on the day.

You don't really apply for a visa waiver-you just show up and fill out the form (provided you have a passport from a country covered by the VWP).

However, what are you going to do? Are you a college professor, computer specialists, attorney, doctor, internationally recognized craftsman or artist? If so you can get in a long line for one of the very limited H1 visas.

Are you a hairdresser, secretary, call service specialist, retail clerk, office manager, etc? Well, your going to have a very rough time getting a visa to stay here.

Coming for 90 days and finding a job--easy.
Getting a visa to stay and actually work at the job--probably impossible.

Check the WIKI above on how to get a Visa.

p.s. Coming for 90 days and looking for a spouse would probably be a quicker way to emigrate, and easier (seriously).

the thing you need to bear in mind - is what would you do IF you found a job? You cannot just legally stay there and take it - you would have to come back and sort out a proper visa - so if i was you i would look into potential visas YOU might qualify for FIRST or your whole trip might be in vain.

Yes because it's not likely that you'll get anything together for this year's H1 application date of April 1st for an October 1st start date, so you are looking at an October 2009 start date at the earliest.

Default Re: searching for jobs

Before you spend your hard earned even though your question is in two parts there is one answer - you cannot use the visa waiver program to look for a job. If you are found with material that could indicate that you are looking for a job then the POE officer may put you in line to get back on the plane back.

why is it when someone does VWP with the intent to marry they're jumped on.

yet when someone considers coming on VWP looking for work they're not jumped on.

VWP is for tourism reasons is it not?

Searching for a job is a legitimate VW/B-2 activity, from what I have read.
You may not accept or start employment while in that status though.
