Sick as a parrot. He wasn't even Scottish. I am gutted is all I can say. He played a great part though. RIP Scotty.

He has my admiration for this alone ...
"And in 2000, aged 80, Doohan boldly went into fatherhood for the seventh time when his then 43-year-old wife gave birth to a daughter, Sarah."

I think it was self-evident he was not living in Scotland - and never lived in Scotland and de-facto was not born in Scotland. In fact he was, like William Shatner, a Canadian. One might, therefore, safely conclude I was joking.

I never thought he was Scottish, but I do think he was talented. I remember seeing him interviewed on a Sci-Fi channel program years ago. He stated that he could do a better Scottish accent than the one he did on the show. But the shows producers, Gene Roddenberry in particular, thought American viewers would have trouble understanding the full blown Scottish brogue. So he watered down the accent to a milder version.

He went on to demonstrate the difference by doing what sounded like a much thicker and truer version of a Scottish accent, and then doing the version from the show.

He also demonstrated his talents further by doing a variety of different accents including a very good Cockney accent followed by an upper class British accent that Hugh Grant would have been proud of. He also demonstrated a Pirate accent (shiver me timbers).

I had no idea how talented the man was, until that show aired.

Reast in peace Scotty.
