I really think your best bet will be a town in New Jersey, as noted by Jerseygirl in her prior post. As JG said, I suggest you read all the info that Englishmum has posted and take it from there -- including canvasing your OH's new colleagues-to-be as to where they live.

The parents of children who attended our local schools usually paid tens of thousand of dollars a year in property taxes. Property taxes more or less fund local schools. Therefore most of the families who lived there sent their kids to local schools.
Are local schools better than private...I have mixed feelings.

I understand that not everyone is going to be a high roller, but when the middle classes confine their families usually to no more than 2-3 children, it is galling to see those on minimum wage jobs, income subsidies, and food stamps with 4-5 children or more!

Which is popular with the large minority of voters who are tired of funding freeloaders who have neither the skills nor motivation to contribute significantly, or in many cases, at all to the system that supports them.

Wisconsin, Michigan, Kansas, and Illinois soon to follow.

I'm confused. Why can't poor people have clean drinking water or good schools? Maybe if they get educated and given a chance to get a job then they can "pay in". You just want to perpetuate the divide between the haves and the have nots.

Some children's "talents" are best left un-encouraged.

Oh no it sounds like abit of a nightmare! Maybe we should try to stay in Singapore?
What about the public schools? Is there a good one that anyone would recommend? Someone here has mentioned Bronxville high school but as I will have a junior middle and high school it could get complicated!

"Extremely" significantly understates the reality of property taxes in Bronxville.

I seem to recall the average property tax rate there was $43k a year, and that was a while go...?

3 kids in private school in NYC is going to be significantly higher in fees than an average 43K a year in property taxes in Bronxville.

There is a pre-school in Manhattan that charges more than that per annum for ONE child!
