School vaccines - where to get them?
I know the title implies a stupid question but keep with me haha.
So we’re in CA, we arrived on Monday. Luckily (?!) our daughter has medical conditions so we had to see a paediatrician for her today (appointment made whilst still in the U.K.) and she happened to give her all her School vaccines, hooray!
Our son however can not be seen until 6th September... obviously we’d like him to be in school before then!
We seem to be going round and round in circles with places that cover our insurance but we don’t really care if it’s covered or not. It’s all a bit weird!
Does anyone know how we can get his vaccines before hand (hep b and tb test) *confused*
thanks in advance!

Most pharmacies give general vaccinations on a walk in basis

+ 1 - Call your local CVS or Walgreens, chances are both can provide the vaccines. Some may need to be ordered though. It's highly likely either Walgreens or CVS accepts your insurance for this, it'll likely be one of the two, but usually at least one. I'd also caution against "not caring if the insurance covers it" such vaccines can easily run into $200 EACH. So I'd definitely suggest finding an in-plan option, if possible.

Our county health department offer school vaccines free.
Maybe its a similar situation in your State.

This is what I did in SoCal for my two kids. The downside was that the kids freaked out so badly as the nurse was not gentle. They are now scared of injections. It did not help that there were so many.
They still don't like injections but they much prefer the nurses at the clinics (Kaiser/or similar other provider)

County Health Department. Call a few weeks in advance, don't just walk in (different rules in different counties).
Leon County (Tallahassee) may have offered it for free; Miami-Dade did not (at least, not a decade ago). Something else for you to ask about when you call.

The difference was the county health department was functional but lacked compassion. The regular clinic/nurse are (IMHO) more patient and kind, and make it less of a drama.

The CHD is there to get to necessary job done, the doctor's office wants repeat business....

I don't "like" them but I don't mind them. Very few instances where I've had Dracula administer the injection or withdraw blood so have always found it relatively painless. I've donated over a gallon of blood over the years and being diabetic I have blood withdrawals every 4 months. The worse injections are the ones for flu as they are muscular rather than vein injections.

County Public Health agencies are an often overlooked source for medical treatment of a more preventive nature (like vaccines). In some school districts, they actually come to the school and give the shots on campus (which was always a day of dread when I was a kid).
Some pharmacies will give them too but they are often hesitant about giving them to children, more so if the child has some sort of condition.
