Beginner's permit or not?

Axis,

I just pulled out the manual (yea, I kept it *S*) It reads:
"Drivers from other countries may obtain a SC license without taking a test other than the vision test,
if SC has reciprocity with their home country;
Canada, France, Germany, American Samoa, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
Applicants from other countries than listed, must take the full test".

Again, reading in the manual... "If you are 18 years of age, have not had prior driving experience,
and are applying for a first time DL, you must meet the following requirements:
1) Have held a beginner's permit for 90 days, and
2) Passed all vision and skills tests

Where did you get the 180 day requirement?
Or do I have an old version of the manual??

Anyway... DMV never asked me to show my Dutch license.
(I've been fully licenced for both car and motor cycle, respectively for about 14 and 10 years)
I would say... if they don't ask....go for it!

Hehe, it's going to be a nervewracking trip to the DMV I think

But I have to agree with you, if they don't ask, why not huh?

I got 180 days from the SC DMV website.

Anyway, I'm thinking it's possible I need more practice in this truck of mine - after all, a Ford pickup truck on US roads, is slightly different to driving a tiny Ford Fiesta on English country lanes I think!!

A beginners permit is, and would be sufficient, yet a full DL would help me a lot with my employer.

Regardless, I'll get back to practicing in the parking lot, and keeping my fingers crossed for the imminent trip to the DMV..

Thanks Petra! Have fun with your new DL and be safe!
