Satellite Radio - BBC World Service
I was very lucky to be given a Delphi satellite radio for Christmas - no you don't need a satellite dish! You just have a little aeriel. It's brilliant.
I'm able to listen to the BBC World Service whilst I'm doing the ironing etc. I know you can get the World Service on the internet but in our house that means sitting in front of the computer in the den so you can't get on with doing anything else apart from doing stuff on the computer.
This morning so far I've heard the European news report, an interview with Terry Waite who recently returned to Beirut where he had been held hostage for a number of years, and a report about a radio station in Boston playing 'one hit wonders'. Right now there is a radio story about a Roman at the time of the volcanic eruption of Mt. Vesuvius and the effect on Pompeii. It's also good to hear world news froma different angle (all I ever hear about otherwise for 'world news' in the US media is about Israel or Iraq).
The good thing about the satellite radio is that you can also take it out of the house and play it in the car (we have a kit but haven't installed it yet). Also there are NO adverts on any of the radio stations...there are over 120 channels, some with news and current affairs, comedy, children's, and so many genres of music; punk, country, jazz, reggae, blues, pop & rock, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s etc.
I can't imagine being without it now!

My PC is hooked up to my hi-fi...with our dsl line radio one and virgin come through crystal clear. World Service is ok, but not as good as the real broadcast. I'd buy satelite radio if they broadcast the real live UK stations.

Just picked up on your post.
Could you advise me on how I can listen to or watch english international cricket over here. as when researching on the web it shows that radio 4 is unable to broadcast live cricket through the internet.

Interesting to hear that - I'm like you - I can't be stuck to the PC to listen, so I've looked at Satellite Radio a few times, but haven't got round to buying it yet - maybe this'll spur me too cos I really miss the World service. Thanks!!

Id be interested as to where you get these links other than through the BBC site as often the football streams on Radio 5 are not webcast due to licensing?

These site post you direct to the radio station website,
with 5 live they often dont webcast the transmission outside of the uk for legal issues, i.e. havent got the rights to broadcast outside of the uk even though you can get it on the web in the uk.
Does anyone know of anysites that can sort of bypass the 5 live feed, so it doesnt detect that you are not in the uk?
