Satellite radio
Has anyone got that Sirius satellite radio thing in their car? If so can you get BBC radio on it? I've been thinking about investing in one as the thought of having commercial-free radio is wonderful but I'd want to know if I could get blighty radio before I invested in one.

Re: Satellite radio
Yeah, my wife got me Sirius for Christmas. It has some BBC news & talk channels. It's neat, I recommend it.

Re: Satellite radio
I will probably invest in one next year. Stern is going over to Sirius in about a year, so I will pay $12 a month just so I can have a good laugh in the mornings

Re: Satellite radio
A lot of FIL's friends use it because they can't get reception for anything else in the woods, and they all like it, but ou have to be driving a lot to make it worth the money, ain't cheap monthly on top of having to buy the system...

I think having commercial free radio would be worth every penney, having to sit through 10 minutes of commercials every 20 minutes does my head in.

Re: Satellite radio
My Christmas pressie for 2003 was the Sirius satellite radio (for the house but also have a car adapter which we still haven't installed in the car....don't want to drill any holes in it!).
Right now have on 'Sportsworld' on the BBC World Service....it's fun to listen to the live football commentary - but best of all is the excellent quality of news reporting. There are some v.good radio programmes on the BBC.
There is also a good selection of other genres of broadcasts which I can't normally find on local FM or AM stations; reggae, world music, comedy etc.
I'd be lost without it.

Re: Satellite radio
XM to go, it's $350 but you can take and use it anywhere. We have one and it's cool, FM Transmitter, hand held, time shift (recording), five hour battery and all you need is in the box no extra kits required. Death to the Adds

Re: Satellite radio
This is the one we have and sometimes I have it on in the bedroom (via our DVD player) and in the kitchen via our JVC radio & CD mini-system (it comes also with a car-kit if you want to use it in the car as well as in the house):

And of course, costs a lot less than the $350 version LOL!
(Ha ha ha.....I always thought I had the Sirius satellite service....I actually have the XM one instead!!!!). Howard Stern doesn't join Sirius until 2006.
Here is the XM radio site which lists all the stations you can hear throughout the USA...and no adverts
http://www.xmradio.com/
(The Home page has a promotion for a free trial online to your PC/laptop right now).
The news programmes are listed here - inc. the BBC World Service (which is giving brilliant factual and unbiased coverage of the tsuami disaster...It is so refreshing to listen to the BBC on the radio!) .
