into downtown LA ? its about 120 miles and takes about 2.5/3 hours ... We had one crappy journey back from Seaworld last year when it took 5 Hours on a Sunday :scared: the I5 is decent road but two lanes in parts.

Thanks, we're thinking of doing a coastal road trip starting in San Diego and working our way up to L.A. via La Jolla, Newport beach etc etc plus a quick trip over to Catalina Island.

we have done this trip several times. It can take about 2.5/3 hrs from San Diego to La but it is best to start really early in the morning about 7 - 730am or after 6 - 6.30pm as the highways get so congested even at weekends. we usually take the hwy 5 or 405.

Agree with Shish kebab - it's never taken us more than 2.5 hrs....., but we only travel at the weekend, leaving SD (Del Mar) before 10 am, LA after 6pm.

Sounds like a fun trip! I love La Jolla, especially Raponggi's - a fantastic restaurant.
