We've stayed at the Hilton a couple of times and we love it but we want to try a different hotel. Can anyone recommend a good one?

Cost isn't a problem but it must have a private balcony overlooking the Riverwalk. Was on the verge of booking at the Contessa but found out they have a communal terrace as opposed to private balconies. :(

Cheers in advance!

I need some help.. I've just been offered a job in an environmental consulting company as an environmental scientist- which is great because ive been looking for work since i got my green card in June 2007.

Problem is the jobs near Spring Branch, TX at the intersection of 281 and 46. I interviewed for the job without much hope of getting it - but Hey! proved myself wrong.I have my UK licence but havent driven since my driving test in May 2005. Dont know how ive survived until now- needless to say I hate driving and I've just dealt with it. Anyway, now im starting the job in 1 to 2 weeks and need to get there somehow.

Im thinking; one-week intensive driving courses; googled that and just came up with UK sites. Any ideas on driving schools/adult driving courses.

Also carpooling; any ideas where i can connect with carpoolers?

Thanks for any ideas,
Louise

You can set your Google preferences to only show pages hosted in a certain country (eg the US).

Mass transit in the US is crap in most places and in Texas nearly non-existent, but VIA (San Antonio's transit system) offers a van-pool programme:

http://www.viainfo.net/OtherService/VanpoolFAQ.aspx

Here's a few links to SA driving schools:

http://www.thecityofsanantonio.com/d...ool/index.html

You'll want to make sure they offer beginner's lessons; many will only offer a class that can get you out of a ticket ("defensive driving").

As most will tell you, getting your licence here is cheaper and laughably easier than it is in the UK.

Good luck!

I wouldn't bother with the lessons, just have a bit of a practice with your husband and then go and take your test ASAP. You have a UK license so you must be able to drive!!! Forget the via bus service and all that car pooling stuff; this is Texas. You have to drive especially if you want to work. Do you really want to be messing with all that everyday?

Thanks for your help. I've signed up for that via vanpool programme. Called a couple of driving schools but i think at this short notice I may as well get my husband to teach me.

I think more than anything else I need to carpool because of the cost of making such a long journey everyday- I dont mind driving as such. It does frustrate me there isnt an alternative solution.

How do I go about doing a driving test in SA- do I just turn up to the place where you update licences (dps) and ask to do the written/practical test?
