Definitely vinegary -- and if you are new to it, for my money don't buy the Chef brand, which my local supermarket has taken to carrying in its Brit section, and hold out for the Heinz.

Haven't tried it myself...I prefer Hellman's Mayo to Salad Cream.

Yes I've never seen the attraction.

It's not what they use in the Netherlands and Germany.

All my life, my dad bought Hellman's mayo. As I grew up and started doing my own grocery shopping, he insisted I only buy Hellman's! And I did, for years and years (known as Best Foods on the west coast)....but now I sort of buy whatever is on sale...actually Safeway generic brand mayo is pretty good! Sorry, dad

Mayonesa is more similar to the Dutch slasaus. I miss Calve.

There is a coleslaw dressing that is quite like salad cream, in a little jar with a turquoise label.

I am in Orange County and every Vons/Pavilions/Ralph store down here has a British section and they all sell salad cream.

Treat yourself to a trip to the Brit shops in Santa Monica - they are close to the Brit pub so you can go all-out.

Personally, so do I - and we don't buy anything else. We've tried Duke's, which is the BIG brand in the south, but it doesn't compare.

My comment was referring to Miracle Whip tasting like salad cream, which it doesn't.

(Wife like MW, but don't get it NEAR my sandwich!)

This is going to be my first Christmas in the US and when googling "where can I buy Mince Pies in the US" I stumbled accross a website called British Food Depot

I havent purchased from them yet but they have all my favourites from back home (remember Quavers!!?). You can even get Bacon from them if you are a little further East

Most places carry mincemeat so you can make your own without much effort.
