I stopped smoking when I moved here. Wasn't a heavy smoker though, 10 a day at best (if I wasn't out boozing)

Ullo from a newbie
Need some advice please. Relocated to the USA in December 07 and so far so good. One small problem - I smoke Rothmans (blue) cigarettes and they are really hard to find in NJ not to mention twice the price of marlboro. I'm not loving the idea of buying Rothmans online so I was wondering what American brands (read: easily available) ex pats are smoking (or am I the only baddie left???)
Thanks in advance for all opinions!!!

PS Bowie is the dog!

I live in Florida and our Publix sell them. I think they are made and imported from Canada. If you have a Publix in your area they can special order them for you

Did find some B&H here, they were in a sort of "metallic blue & gold" box. Only in 100's as well. Just didn't taste quite right tho, so I gave up and went onto Malboro reds (lung-burners we called them back home), thence to Lucky Strike (unfiltered - it was my macho phase), onwards to anything generic (broke phase) thence to menthol ultra lights (back to Marboro's again).
After 25 years since those "bike-shed sly-ones", now smoke free. Love the smell.
PS: No-one mentioned rolling your own.

Hi Scatty,
Thanks for the advice but we don't have a publix here in NJ! I have a little independent convenience store that gets them in for me but he charges a lot and doesn't always have them. So far this hasn't been a problem because I got here 12/12/07 so I had a duty free "stock". I guess I asked the question for the *fateful* day when i go there and my stock has run dry!

Old Holborn was a bit sweeter, but GV tasted better.
Calling them "skins" makes me think of a little "trick" using three of them.
*Ahem*

First time I tried to buy rolling tobacco, went into a 7-11 and asked for Golden Virginia - smartass behind the counter tells me just about every tobacco here is called something-Virginia.

And yeah, skins, until a couple years ago, you couldn't buy a lighter in the same store that sold skins, because only druggies did rollies and getting matches or a lighter in another store really stopped people from smoking

Re: rothmans cigarettes
I've rolled my own smokes for several years now, it just worked out cheaper than buying normal cigs and even more so with frequent trips to Spain .
However during my short time here I have noticed that not many places sell skins and those that do charge around $1.30 for the ZigZag 1 1/4 which only as 32 leaves as opposed to the 25p for a packet of Rizzlas or Swan papers which came with 50 leaves. Also even fewer places sell filter tips and they are costly also, not too mention they are like bloody huge gobstoppers instead of the small ones in the back in blighty.
As for tobacco, I bought a packet just the other day called BaliShag (Danish) which I haven't tried yet but it appears to be similar to Drum, Turner and the rest of the of the usual Halfzware Shags available. The cost I thought was rather reasonable - a little over $5 for 40g and it comes with 50 skins!
