His first big break was as Fatty Johnson on radio's "The Navy Lark" in the late 50s.

A brilliant and hard working British comedian. I grew up watching him.
I think these quotes from Ronnie Corbett sums it up.

Shame - he was pure class in just about everything he did.
And he had the sense to quit while he was still funny, unlike some who drift on for far too long on past successes...

An integral part of my childhood memories. He was a fantastic master of comic timing.
