Romney OKs troopers detaining illegal aliens

Gov. Mitt Romney, who is weighing a White House bid, signed an agreement Wednesday that allows Massachusetts State Police troopers to detain illegal aliens they encounter over the course of their normal duties.
Under the terms of the agreement, made with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, an initial group of 30 troopers will receive five weeks of specialized training next year, paid by the federal government.
The troopers will be drawn from the Violent Fugitive Apprehension Squad, the Criminal Investigation Section, the Anti-Gang Unit, the Drug Enforcement Unit and the Community Action Team.

It could be all talk and no do. The next governor looks as if he wiil do away with that law. I don't think the state troopers will be arresting and even deporting any illegals anytime soon. Shame if they don't.

it seems everyone is presumed to be illegal if they resemble a mexican, but how do we know if there illegal or not?...plenty of brazilians living around here too, would they get the same harassment? It's just an excuse to be made to look like your doing something to bandage a problem, and be discriminatory at the same time because I highly doubt they'll be asking to see every English person's status they see out there etc.

State taxes spent on Illegal immigration? Maybe each state could chip in and buy a piece of the infamous wall, like the Adopt a highway sheme. They could each have a little plaque "The Taxpayers of Rhode Island don't welcome you to the USA, thank you and have a nice day"
