Well that's going on around here....Maine has something similar in the summer I think.

Anyone else got one in their neck of the woods? Any one enjoy them?

They have them in NYC, at least twice a year and usually when it's a quiet time for the tourist & conference season and the often inclement weather tends to put people off from dining out eg. January and February.

There are usually some 'elite' restaurants participating eg. Artisinal, Tao, Blue Hills etc and for the popular ones you have to book immediately the dates are announced and the restaurants open their bookings for Restaurant week; of course anyone living in the Tri-State area who wants to go to an 'elite' restaurant waits until they can get the fixed prices which they would otherwise be unwilling or unable to afford.

My friend was lucky and managed to get into the Union Square Cafe, although I had a disappointing meal there once and I'm reluctant to return.

My local town has a lot of restaurants as the Paper Mill theatre is based here. They have an annual 'Taste of the Towns' evening where the local restaurants all have a 'stall' in a local venue so you can have a taste of what each restaurant has to offer. I've never been as it's usually early on a Monday night (not a popular night to dine out) and it's not cheap either. Quite a few of the neighbouring towns have a 'Taste of the Town' evening too so I don't know if it's a New Jersey thing (it's a high density populated State) or if these kinds of events take place nationally.

yeah, that's more what it's like in Maine, though they have it in Waterville, and have all sorts of places having a tented area in the city, though this year was a blow out because of the really bad weather, and it's not that cheap either...has been good in the past, but last couple of years were a bust apparently.
