Default Renting a Harley for a cross country trip?.

Anybody know of a company who will rent a Harley motorbike in say Florida and then let the rider drop it off in California?. My friend in the U.K. is doing an around the world trip next year and would like to travel across America for about 6 weeks on a Harley. So far he's been quoted about £5000 pounds from one company he's found. Any links or tips would be helpfull.

Sounds like it would be cheaper to buy one.

If he has a Harley in UK then he should look through HOG (Harley Owners Group).

I am sort of surprised he found anyone, there are sites for cars needing cross country delivery, can not imagine anyone wanting a Harley delivered that way. Most around here, and there are lots, are middle aged toys for hi days.

PS that probably did not include tax or insurance.

Is this guy experienced in riding a Harley? They are probably the WORST motorcycle to choose for a cross country trip. Loud, vibrating, poor mileage. Ugh. Image over performance.

Done it twice on real motorcycles so I know....

His around the world ticket has him flying into Orlando and out of San Francisco. So returning to Florida isnt really an option.

He has a regular bike, but is planning to rent a Harley to see what it rides like before he leaves.

Check out http://www.eaglerider.com. I put in for 6 weeks and got $5500 for a an Electra Glide Classic which is the only bike suitable for such a trip.

I would prefer a BMW for such a trip.

Now thats what I wanted to find - 10 years ago.

The current models are not so bad for long distance, but not something you would want to rush.

Had a quick look, you would need to add tax and most likely Insurance as most Rental companies in US assume you have your own.

Would be possibly cheaper to buy one!

I have noticed that the prices peope want for their used Harleys are very high compared with list, maybe a hangover from before they substantially increased production. Seem loads in the papers.
