Reno, NV - what's the skinny?
 

Another place that's been asking questions, so till it dies and I get my hopes up, should I care?

What's the state like, or local towns, traffic, how's the rental market?

Should I be excited at the opportunity or not be bothered by it? As I don't really have a clue about NV, apart from it's hot out there...

I don't know what the rental market is like, but property values have been dropping like a rock. Plusses are that it's near the Sierras, so if you're into hiking, skiing etc it's conveniently located. Big minus is that it's... Reno.

I'll have to wait and hear some info before I do any research into the city as I want to find out about the company first....and I'm desperately trying to not get hooked into the Louisiana gig as I can't refuse anything because of the unemployment thing but that place just scares me, so I'm hoping that not doing the art test would put them off...but as they had a typo on their job page advert, I'm guessing that they didn't have much applying :lol:

This one I can help you on Bob I go there on business every month and its a great place very freindly and apart from the obvious casino's etc its a nice family place.

And you get to go to Tahoe on the weekends in the summer or skiing in the winter the airport is excellant and as you know international should you need to get back to the UK.

I love the place and look forward to going ever month some areas are very old fashioned and I always think kinda toy town looking.

I am amazed at the amount of Californians I meet that have moved there and prefare it over Cali.:unsure:

And remeber you are also just over and hour from Sacramento.

Reno is a great town. The area is high desert so not hot like Las Vegas. Las Vegas is what most people think of when they think of Nevada. We have 4 seasons here and none of them are severe. We do get snow in winter but not that much and it usually melts quickly. The Sierras and area around Lake Tahoe get quite a bit of snow so there is access to skiing.The landscape is pretty because of the mountains and snow..There is alot of opportunity for recreation here as the weather is so conducive to being outdoors. The area is growing with alot of Californians moving in. There is no state income tax which is one of the things people like and makes the area attractive. The airport is nice and currently undergoing renovation. There is a decent amount of shopping and more coming all the time as the area grows. Yes there are casinos but you don't have to frequent them if you don't want to Alot of people that live here don't go that often unless there is a show in town they want to attend. That being said alot of people come here to entertain and there are alot of current musicians in and out of here. The food scene is also improving all the time. You can get higher end dining or just a quick bite at a small family owned restaurant. We just moved to a new home in Dec and it is lovely. There are housing deals to be had out there right now because there had been quite a boom going on until last year. Now there is inventory available where the builders overstretched. In short I would say come and check reno out if the job offer materializes. I think you will like it.

LOL I did feb in a rental nissan rogue piece of shit that was anyways it was pelting and the washer froze could not see a damn thing, all I had was a bottle of mountain due, and had to keep getting out in the freezing cold to throw the soda over it which froze just about as soon as it hit the windshield.

Certainly would be worth a look-see Bob; I generally like it out West. But with the little'un coming, bear in mind the family angle - is your missus's family close to where you are at the mo? If we didn't have our daughter, we might've been tempted to try elsewhere, but now she's here, I now understand the value of having family around.

Aye, that's the big issue, last year, I'd have moved anywhere in the country, but with a new born, it's got to be a really good offer.

The folks are 4.5 hours up in Maine, but it's not that bad a drive, I can cane it up there in just over 3 but the mass plate is a bit of a hindrance on I-95.

The folks will be spending a bit down here when the baby is born, MIL has spring holiday, she's a teacher and FIL, he'll be on mud season break for a month.
