Renew UK passport from the US

I am a UK citizen living in the USA as a Permanent Resident (with Green Card).
My red UK passport expired in 2007 and I am not sure if it is 'renewable' or if I have to apply for a new passport. There will be no change in information on the new passport.
I scoured the gov.uk website for an answer but came up empty handed. I was wondering if anyone here has been in a similar situation (with an overly expired passport). Any info would be great!;)

Welcome to BE.

You will probably have to apply for a first time UK PP. The cut off time for renewals is 10 years.

10 years and it'll be as if it were a first time application.

I just sent in my red passport that had expired in 2005, I was also doing a name change on it. The online application prompts you to choose options (color of expired passport, have you had one before etc).
During the application it will have you put the date of expiration and the passport number, at the end of the application when you are checking your info is correct you will see it has you listed as applying for a first time passport.
You will need your picture counter signed and it may require your BC, I had to send minebut that may have been due to name change ....the papers you print out will tell you exactly what you have to send.
I sent my signature page an documents on feb 15 from Texas and received the new passport yesterday (27th feb).

Thank you for taking the time to reply!
Am I right in understanding an expired UK passport is different than Cancelled one.
So, if there is a 10-year passport cancellation period does that mean if my passport expired in June 2007 I have until June 2017 to renew (which would be a full 10 years)?
or does the 10 year canx period just go from 2007 to 2017 without any specific date?

Thanks in advance :)

Why not do what Britexmom says in #4 above? Go through the on-line application and it will tell you what is needed in your specific situation.

Unless you are deliberately obfuscating the UK passport office makes it clear as others have said that you can obtain a new passport in your circumstances by applying as if for a first time passport. If your passport is still valid then it will be a renewal, replacement or update, use https://www.gov.uk/apply-renew-passport

I assisted an elderly friend using the online system to obtain their passport after a 40 year expiry period for their previous UK passport. Once we gathered the simple documents needed to apply as a first time passport holder (they were born in the UK) the entire process from sending to receipt took less than 2 weeks.
