Is it easier to get the passport renewed in UK instead of USA? I mean, does it require less documentation if you get it renewed in UK? Anyone?

It makes no difference to the documentation required.

Thank you very much. Im kind of in a very bad spot and have searched this forum a lot today without help for someone in my shoes.

Basically, I need my parents passport info, DOBs, marriage licenses etc. I have no contact with them. Its been 8 years since we last spoke (and it wasn't pleasant). They will not help me with all those info. And I was born outside of UK as were my parents. Born in September 1983. Too many docs required from me that requires my parents help, which I will not be able to get at any cost. Do you know a way around it? Your help is greatly appreciated.

If it's a renewal why do you need all that documentation?

That was my first question as well. That too for someone who isn't a minor (im 27). But form C-1, section 2 asks for all that info. Then in the instruction for C-1, it asks me for my parents citizenship evidence, marriage lic etc.

I renewed my UK passport 3 years ago. Unless something has changed since then... I needed a copy of my long-form birth certificate, the C-1 application, and my prior passport. I didn't need anything else related to my parents.

Just curious - if both you and your parents were born outside the UK, how did you become a British citizen?

Were you born after 31 December 1982, or outside the UK or a qualifying territory?
If not, you wouldn't have completed the section he's asking about.

Both my parents were UK citizens when I was born, hence their kid would automatically become a UK citizen.

As somebody already mentioned, you did not need to complete section 2 on the passport app. I, on the other hand, HAVE to complete it.

IMO, its pretty pathetic to ask a 27 year old (or any adult) any docs directly from their parents. There should be no reason for me to be getting my parents passport numbers, marriage lic etc. Hell, what if they weren't alive? I guess I'll be going through this every 10 years. I'll be getting the 48 page passport just incase I run out of pages later on.

But if they were born outside of the UK, they would not automatically pass it on, which I think what he was asking about.

If they were both UK citizen, and had a kid, that kid becomes a UK citizen automatically. I don't know the rules, but Im just trying to be logical using my own case.

If a couple were on a long vacation and had a baby overseas, the kid would not be allowed to go back with them to the UK if he wasn't a UK citizen. Getting a UK passport for a kid is different cuz I believe you are put on your parents passport as a child. I got my first passport when I was three when my parents moved back to the UK.

Again, I didn't read the rules on this, but if Im wrong, its makes no sense. Either way, I've had a British passport for almost 25 years, since 1986 and have had the standard passport since 1999 (expired Dec 2009).
