Default removal companies

Hi all. Does anyone have any reviews/views on the following moving companies (we are moving from the UK to the USA): Bournes (from Kent), PSS International Removals, Excess International Movers, Cadogen Tate Moving Ltd and Bishop's Move Group?

Thanks

Hi Mossyend

We used Excess International, so this might be helpful.

On the negative side, the original quote was quite a bit off, (they underestimated the cubic footage we would need), but the end price was pretty much what other companies had quoted, so although a bit annoying at the time, it turned out to be a non-issue.

The original person we dealt with at the company must have left, so we ended up communicating with a different person. Slightly unnerving when you're 5,000 miles away, but again, turned out OK. They stored our stuff in the UK for 4 months as we were renting furnished out here to start with.

We didn't have too much stuff so shared a container. There was an additional charge for x-raying at US customs. I think is was $45, and I gather that most containers are x-rayed.

The staff who came to pack us up were typically grumpy , but did a good job. We had a granite table top, which they complained that they hadn't been told about it as it should be crated or would likely break, and they didn't have a crate. To their and the company's credit, when it arrived it had been put in a wooden crate.

The delivery at this end (California) was outsourced, but the guy who turned up was excellent. The agents at this end were also fine. Everything arrived, at the stated time, with only one damaged item (a cast iron frying pan inside a box with loads of other completely undamaged and much more fragile stuff!).

Hope this is useful.

Paul
