Relocating back to the USA
 

We have restarted the process of returning to the USA I have signed a contract with the employer and our visa applications have been received by USCIS back in February. I have already passed the NCLEX and kept my RN licence upto date in Pennsylvania. The question I have is that the nursing agency I am contracted to have allowed me 3 choices of state on where I would like to practice. Our choices are Florida, Austin Texas and Scotsdale Arizona can any one advise on here as to which of these states would be suitable to live and work. We live in Pennsylvania for 4 years and are not too keen on the cold winters. Any advice would be greatly received.

How do you feel about humidity?

Both Austin and "Florida" are going to be in the "high" to "very high" range which has the potential to make life miserable if (like me) you have a very low tolerance for high humidity.

We have 2 daughters aged 16 & 18 they will be looking at going to college/ university.

I vote for Florida. I live and work there, so it is feasible. Never been to TX or AZ.

Also hurricanes. If you're living in Florida it not a question of "if" you're gonna get hit by one, only "when". :unsure:

I love Florida. I have lived in the Tampa area for almost eight years. Plenty of beautiful beaches and of course Florida is known as "The Sunshine State" Lots of outdoor activities to enjoy here in Florida.

Reading your post I think we've registered with the same agency!!! Whilst they do try to honour your preferences, I think to a certain degree you have to go where they have placements at the time of you getting your visa and that suits your skill set. My recruiter explained that the last three groups had been placed in California, Texas and Rhode Island. I have requested one of the southern states (I need sunshine!!!) but am not too bothered after that. Once I've completed my required hours I'm home free and can move around to wherever.
Fingers crossed for my priority date next month as my paperwork was also filed in Feb.

I'm with O' Grady Peyton the most recent email I received from them states they have openings all over the USA, I work in PACU quite a specialized area.
I was with O'grady Peyton when I worked in Pennsylvania. Are you with OGP?

Looking at the posts on here I will try for Florida as I love the sunshine and beaches.

The Tampa Bay Area is really nice...good beaches, itots of culture and always plenty to see and do. The cost of living isn't outrageous either. I have 2 kids here and have been happy with the schools. It's like anywhere else. You just have to research the hell out of the area to narrow down best schools. I haven't looked at university options yet but as far as family friendly Tampa/Clearwater/st Pete have it all and Palm harbor which is north of Clearwater has excellent schools and decent rents.

I have visited the Tampa bay are many times and it is a nice place somewhere I would be happy relocating there with the family.

Yes I'm with them too, nice to "meet" someone who's in the same boat as me!!
The U.S. as a whole seems to have nursing vacancies, I'm just going to wait and see where they offer me.
