Dear Forum,
Last October i was returning from San Pedro Sula (Honduras) to London Via
Miami. I was only changing planes at Miami but the officer at the desk
deemed it necessary to take me to a room with numerous other people in it,
ask me personal and infringing questions. They then proceeded to take my
finger prints, picture etc and register me.
Anyhow this was all happening at around 4.30pm, and my connecting flight was
leaving at 5.00pm with all my bagge on it.
They said that i had to register myself out of the country before i left the
airport.
Anyway within that time frame i could not.
When i got back to London i called the appropriate people at Miami airport
to explain my situation, she said that it would not effect my chances of
entering the US again. Is this true?
She also said for me to keep the boarding pass to prove i had left the US at
that time.
Im going to NY in a month, just want to know if i'll be ok.
Thanks in advance...
Zak

Was any notation made in your pasport? If so, what is it? When they told
you to "register yourself" what did they say?

to explain my situation, she said that it would not effect my chances of
entering the US again."
That's false. It may effect your chances. Who did you speak to at the airport?
What is your citizenship?
It sounds like you were registered in the NSEERS program. Failure to register your departure could cause you big problems if/when you apply for admission again because you violated the program. I don't know the exact rules for how you overcome this problem. Hopefully you can sort it out the next time you seek admission. The bording pass helps, but they wanted to verify the exact same person departed. You really need to give more time between flights to clear the United States in the future. They won't skip their inspection if you have a plane to catch.
As for only transiting, they didn't know if you were going to depart or not because noone was going to escort you to your plane. You could have legally walked right out of the airport and skipped the connection.
I'm not sure what their questions were "infringing" on because you had very few rights to infringing upon when you apply to enter a foreign, sovereign nation.
Good luck.
