My one & only experience with a relo consultant went like this too. She showed us rental properties that were lovely, but cost significantly above the limit I had clearly stated to her. As a consequence, she unfortunately got my kids all enthused about one house that was not possible for us.
To cut a long story short, the Husband & I ended up finding our own place to rent without her input. In fact, I got the impression that she disapproved of our final choice, which suited us well....
She did help with driving us around our new location and showing us various areas/neighbourhoods. And she did give us a good printout with useful local resources. But in the househunting, she was more of an impediment than anything else.

Though it's been a really mild, easy, not very snow filled winter at all, so if this is bad, you've not seen anything yet.
