I've done toad in the hole a couple of times, though with non-pork sausages due to the pork aversion amongst my family, came out alright. Hot fat in the pan before you put the batter in though, no opening oven 'til done.

Must visit Vons then if they have proper sausages. Even Fresh'n'Easy sausages were a bit crap I thought, not that there's one near us any more since the takeover/merger/acquisition/selling-off/whatever.
